To help build up my list of Seattle “from scratch” resources, I’ve decided to feature a weekly spotlight on local vendors and craftsman who support the DIY lifestyle.
Although the summer farmer’s market season is over, I met many inspirational “scratchers” while visiting my boyfriend’s farm stand (their farm is called Hand-Farmed Organics, in case you want to check them out and prepare for the 2012 farm season!)
So, without further ado, this week’s inspirations from scratch:
Patty Pan Grill (Seattle)
Hot meals at the farmer’s market from scratch
Founded: 1997 (The oldest farmer’s market concession stand in Seattle!)

You must try: The seasonal, grilled veggie quesadilla. Each time, the fixins’ are a little bit different inside, but always delicious. When at the markets, they buy their vegetable ingredients from the local farm vendors.

Jams from scratch
Founded: Second year as a market vendor pro, but the owner, Rome, has been making jams his whole life.
Features: Jam, jellies, preserves and butters.
Favorites this year: Rhubard and lavender, strawberry mint and black pepper, and pear butter.
Where to find: You can buy online, or find these jams this winter, at the Fremont Farmer’s Market on Sundays. Parfait (Seattle)
Ice cream from scratch
Founded: 2006

You must try: Mint Stracciatella.
Where to find: You can order ice cream pints online or check out their calendar to find out where their truck will be next.
- La Pasta (Seattle)
Pasta from scratch

You must try: Fresh, spinach linguini.

Thanks for this list. Now I’m hungry and I just ate. Ice cream, pasta, and more…
Tell me about it! I wasn’t planning on doing an all food list, but once I got started… 😛
Mint ice cream!?! Sign me up.
If you have not had parfait’s mint ice cream…well..you need to try it. its the most delicious, mintiest, ice cream I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting!
I’ve been meaning to hit up a bunch of different farmer’s markets since I’m new to the area…this is the perfect inspiration. I’m especially interested in the homemade pasta, awesome awesome awesome.
There are so many to choose from around here, but sadly, not all are open year round. In the mean time, here are the ones that are open winter: University District, West Seattle, Ballard (and Fremont I think). Looks like the Capitol Hill/Broadway one is also open until Dec. 18. Haven’t been to that one before though…if you go, let me know how it is!
I’ve heard a lot about Farmer’s markets but never really visited one ever since I moved to the US. These details will help a lot.
We’ve got a lot of good ones around here! Some are limited to food, but others will be crafts and food. Hope you get to try one out. Could be fun to do a post for your blog about cooking with ingredients you got at a farmer’s market. A lot of times the vendors will have great recipe ideas that go along with the food that they are selling that week!
